MIKO Design Bionic G2 Table

The MIKO Design Bionic G2 Table was specifically engineered to resolve the spatial challenges of a four-seat corner sofa layout. Conventional seating arrangements face a clear trade-off: rectangular tables intrude into passage zones with sharp corners, while circular tables leave the inner corner as an inaccessible “dead zone.” The G2 Table resolves this bottleneck through a pebble-inspired, rounded right-triangle profile that naturally aligns with human movement around the sofa while maximizing functional tabletop surface.

The contour was algorithmically calculated using parametric Bézier curves with continuous G2 curvature (C^2 surface tangency) across three primary radii—R960, R160, and R96 mm. This smooth perimeter eliminates abrupt tangency breaks, increasing corner clearance efficiency by 35%. The mathematical continuity generates clean CAD geometry that converts directly into smooth CNC toolpaths for high-precision machining. Furthermore, the silhouette was optimized to fit standard material blanks (100×70 cm and 80×80 cm), significantly reducing timber waste during production.

The prototype features a 20 mm rustic solid ash tabletop anchored precisely at its center of mass upon a single steel pedestal, ensuring maximum stability and completely unobstructed legroom along both wings of the sofa. The ash top is CNC-milled and hand-finished using a multi-stage process: a traditional French polish base, reinforced with a protective shellac shield and natural beeswax. Paired with a custom copper-coated steel base, the table strikes a deliberate balance between tactile organic warmth and engineered precision.

The result is a context-specific coffee table where ergonomics, bionic form, parametric geometry, digital fabrication, and fine craftsmanship unite into one cohesive design statement.
