Hand-Covered Face

The diameter of the hand-painted plate is 20cm. This design comes from one of my painting named 《Real You》. It‘s an artistic exploration of simplicity and complexity, crafted using a white porcelain plate as its canvas. Combining hand-painted designs and high-temperature firing, the piece features a central motif of a woman covering her face, surrounded by dots, lines, crosshatches, and circles—visual elements that have fascinated me since childhood. These symbols, though seemingly chaotic, are arranged in a harmonious balance, reflecting the richness of the inner world.

The design draws inspiration from the shadow of a chandelier cast onto my sketchbook during a trip to New York. I traced the shadow’s contours to create a unique framework, layering it with the image of my hand. The hand, a recurring element in my work, symbolizes control over life, its palm lines mirroring the trajectory of fate, and its fingers evoking the undulating landscapes of mountains and valleys.

This piece represents an experiment in merging art with the everyday. By transforming an ordinary plate into a re-crafted object through traditional hand-painting, I aim to blur the boundaries between functionality and artistry. The Hand-Covered Face Plate embodies my philosophy of embracing imperfection and the unpredictable nature of design, making it not only a utilitarian object but also a narrative of growth, exploration, and creative freedom.
